EFCT Online Masterclass: Beyond Betrayal

Description:
This workshop will provide an overview of the research and theoretical models of adult attachment from the perspective of injuries to attachment bonds in romantic relationships. Time will be spent on defining ruptures to trust as a result of broken agreements between partners and on how these ruptures can be healed using Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and relationships (EFCT).

The Attachment Injury Resolution Model will be introduced and video footage of a heterosexual couple engaging in this model will be shown. Participants will receive practical strategies for assisting their clients to repair attachment injuries arising from breaches in trust as well as clear guidance and tools for working with emotional blocks in the EFCT process. There will be opportunity for questions and discussion as well as practical, experiential exercises.

At the end of training, participants will be able to:

• Obtain a comprehensive understanding of the literature on adult attachment relating to attachment injury and ruptures to trust in close relationships
• Name the steps of the Attachment Injury Resolution Model (AIRM)
• Confidently assist clients with attachment injuries to de-escalate in Stage 1
• Use the Attachment Injury Resolution Model help partners to repair from ruptures to their bond in Stage 2 of the EFCT model
• Observe the process of repair by witnessing video footage of a couple working through the healing process
