EFT Therapist Supervision

EFT case consultation or professional supervision is a supportive experience designed to encourage and validate novice and advanced EFT therapists in their development within the model. Cases are discussed in a de-identified manner, struggles are normalised and shared, successes are celebrated, and feedback is framed in a supportive and strength-based way. All therapists, no matter how experienced, benefit from case consultation and reflection on their therapeutic process as part of their professional development program.

Supervision is encouraged throughout all levels of EFT acquisition and maintenance and is considered vital for mastery of this sophisticated and deceptively simple model. The EFT model of supervision includes the use of role-play, real world examples, and concrete guidance regarding how to frame concepts in an EFT-consistent manner.

Supervision is most effective when supervisees bring video or audio recordings of their work with clients to show to their supervisor (only with client consent). That way, therapist and supervisor can watch sessions together for specific feedback and collaborative sharing of ideas for skill enhancement & fidelity to the EFT model.

• Once you have completed either an Externship in EFCT or Essentials of EFIT or EFFT, you can begin to count your supervision consultation hours towards the required number of hours needed for ICEEFT Certification as an EFT therapist in the chosen modality (couples/relationships, individuals or families).
• In order to apply for ICEEFT Certification as an EFT therapist, you need a total of 8hrs supervision with an ICEEFT Certified EFT Trainer, Supervisor or Supervisor-in-training.
• If you attend supervision in a pair with another therapist, BOTH therapists can count these hours towards their required 8hrs.
• If you join an EFT supervision group, you can count 4hrs of group supervision towards the 8hrs required for certification.
• You can become Certified in more than one modality of EFT (EFCT, EFIT or EFFT), but you must complete the Certification requirements for each modality one at a time.
• Not all supervisors will supervise in all three modalities. See their profiles below or send them an email for more information.
• Using ICEEFT skills development guidelines, your supervisor will mentor you through the process of acquiring the EFT competencies.

In Australia, there are many ICEEFT certified EFT supervisors and approved supervisors in training (ICEEFT-approved supervisor candidates). These dedicated clinicians are keen to offer their support to EFT therapists of all abilities. They have devoted considerable time and energy to the process of becoming certified with ICEEFT as EFT supervisors. Supervisors can be contacted directly to organise consultations. All of the listed supervisors conduct supervision online for those not in their local area and their supervision hours will count towards EFT certification.

Your EFT supervisor is a kind and safe mentor as you acquire and refine your EFT skills. Supervisors aim to embody the EFT model in their alliance with their supervisees and to create a shame-free context for growth. Supervisors take their responsibility for shaping their supervisees and staying true to the EFT model extremely seriously. They will mentor you to becoming a Certified EFT therapist, if that is something that you are interested in.
